Today technology takes over a bigger part of our work and freetime. Especially during the covid-19 pandemic we could see an increase in the usage and adaptation of technical environments into our everyday life. To be able to connect with other people and also create new realities for ourselves. One such is an increase of immersion in our life.

Immersion mimics our consciousness and creates new realities. There are several media included and through movement we can conduct a completely new virtual reality(VR). Many have asked what the dangers around this are. In a VR environment people believe to be in the environment, even though the surroundings wouldn’t even seem real. We adapt to the game and have the interactions of making choices and being in a way the narrator of the situation, more than ever before.

But there are also different kinds of ways to use immersion. After reading the text my thoughts went back to a few years back in Finland. The new museum Amos rex opened its doors with its first exhibition. The whole idea with this exhibition was to create an immersive VR experience, but without the VR elements as goggles on the head. You feel like you’re inside a  bubble combined with music, laser projectors, computers, colour and different media. It’s about using all your senses and being interactive with the museum.

This was made possible through using a lot of computers, 137 projectors, audiocabels, and 70 loudspeakers. This is an integration of multiple artistic forms that creates a new whole.Technology makes us use all of our senses to create a new reality for ourselves at that moment and in the future we are able to experience for example exhibitions in a completely new way.
